Adam Saad, Lech Featherstone and Ozgur Uysal have been chosen by the VFL to be included in the team of the year. It’s the first time for each player to be nominated.
Adam Saad had a breakout season in just his second year of VFL Football. At age 20, Saad is one of the most exciting prospects in the league, and will attend the NAB AFL State Draft Combine in Victoria in early November. In such a short time-frame the ex-Calder Cannon has gone from VFL Development League to becoming one of the VFL’s best draft hopefuls.
Lech Featherstone burst onto the VFL scene this year as Coburg’s dominant forward. At age 24, the former Pioneer made his way up through local football to earn a spot on Coburg’s inaugural stand-alone list. Featherstone kicked 35 goals this season to finish the year 5th in the Frosty Miller Medal and competed for the VFL in the annual state game against the SANFL.
An ex-Cannon, Ozgur Uysal has taken his game to a new level this season. After solid performances in the first half of the season, Uysal lifted for the Lions against Williamstown delivering 31 possessions, 2 goals and dominating the clearances. From there, he rose to become one of the VFL’s most consistent performers for the second half of the season.
Port Melbourne earned the most spots in the team with 7 entries.
