Coburg have signed Liam Kidd from the Box Hill Hawks for the 2017 season.
The former Eastern Rangers TAC Cup graduate joins fellow 2016 Box Hill Leadership group member Pat Lawlor at Piranha Park, as well as former teammates in Pete McEvoy and the recently signed Ryan Exon.
Kidd arrived at the City Oval of Box Hill in 2015, after an injury hit 2014 in the TAC Cup. After starting the season with the Eastern Football League’s Knox, Kidd would establish himself in the Development side which went through the season undefeated, however would lose in the decider.
Prior to the 2016 season, Kidd was introduced into the leadership group without having managed a senior game, however after an industrious preseason, would make his senior debut in round one. He would manage a further six games, however none after round 12, although he would be a key staple in the big Development League Premiership win.
Having being starved of Senior opportunities, Kidd can’t wait to demonstrate more of his leadership credentials and capabilities at Piranha Park.
“I’m looking forward to just being around the young group of boys and hopefully playing some senior footy, and hopefully impacting some of the younger kids coming through, so I’m ready for a good year and big year for the club and hopefully get a better a better result than what Coburg had last year, and the seasons before that,” said Kidd, who has a greater opportunity to add to his seven games of Senior VFL Football.
List and Recruiting Manager Sebastian Spagnuolo was pleased to have secured a player of Kidd’s leadership and potential.
“Although Liam hasn’t played many VFL games, which is normal for players at AFL-aligned clubs, Liam comes to Coburg already a young leader,” Spagnuolo said.
“He was in Box Hill’s leadership group in 2016 and like many before him, comes to Coburg play as much senior football as possible whilst also developing his game via our coaching and high performance programs.”
“We can’t wait to start working with Liam and we think he’ll be a fantastic addition to our club.”
