MARSH LOOKING TO MAKE HIS MARK AT THE LIONS

By Mathew Asciak

Coburg has added some more tall timber in the off-season, acquiring the services of Central Districts big man, Jonathan Marsh.

After having a stint in the old NEAFL competition with Sydney University in 2018, Marsh represented the Districts in the SANFL, managing 42 games for the Bulldogs across the last three seasons.

Marsh, 24, is very eager to get started with his VFL journey at Coburg once he arrives in Melbourne in mid-December.

“I’m super excited to be signing with Coburg. I have heard great things about the club and the 2022 playing group we have. I can’t wait to move to Melbourne, meet everyone and crack into preseason with the group,” Marsh said.

“I am very much looking forward to playing state league football in the birthplace of Australian football and challenging myself against some quality AFL listed talent. Having played a season in the NEAFL I am also looking forward to the opportunity again to travel and play as a team interstate.”

“I’m hoping to bring to Coburg some big boy presence, work rate and athleticism in the ruck contest and around the ground. I love winning and look forward to contributing to a successful and enjoyable season for all Lions members.”

“I will be keeping myself very busy outside of football having just taken up a job in Melbourne as a Clinical Support Rep for Sports Medicine products. In my role I will spend time in theatre supporting surgeons through an array of routine and complex sports related surgical procedures.”

Coburg General Manager, Sebastian Spagnuolo, is thrilled to have additional experience and depth in the ruck position.

“We are really excited to add Jono to our club and he will add more state league footy experience to our ruck stocks which will now be a strength of ours from a depth perspective compared to previous years,” Spagnuolo said.

“Jono will join the returning Adam Swierzbiolek and Nathan Howard as well as the recent recruit Macgregor Cameron to create a formidable ruck quartet and we can’t wait to see them out on the track competing for that number one ruck spot.”
