Edwards excited for SEWFL finals

Senior women’s captain Maddie Edwards believes that the team has confidence coming into finals but can’t expect too much with the team still needing to put in the hard work to continue winning.

The seniors claimed top spot on the SEWFL Premier Division ladder after completing a perfect unbeaten run in the home and away season.

Edwards said the team is looking forward to playing in its first final on Saturday.

“We’re obviously extremely excited and pumped up but at the end of the day we can’t go in expecting to win,” she said.

“We’re going in with a very strong minded attitude and knowing that every team we play against they’re going to want to come out and really come for us especially being undefeated all year, so just going in really hard and approaching it like every other game.”

After a 14-0 run to claim the minor premiership the captain said that she was proud of the team’s efforts.

“We were saying in a bit of talk last week all our wins for the year have really been earnt, there haven’t really been any blowouts or anything so we’ve earned those wins and worked through mostly four quarter efforts, so I’m really proud of the girls,” she said.

Edwards said that defensive pressure was one of the team’s major strengths and reasons for success in 2022.

“We look at our stats every week and we top the tackles, so obviously just putting pressure defensively on the other teams I think that’s going to be a massive strength going into finals and something we can hopefully carry through,” she said.
