COBURG ANNOUNCES NAIDOC GUERNSEY FOR 2019

The tradition of Coburg being the only VFL club to celebrate NAIDOC week continues in 2019 with the club announcing it’s new NAIDOC guernsey design.

The club celebrates NAIDOC week each week by encouraging people of all backgrounds to reflect, educate (themselves or others) and celebrate the rich culture of our ancestral land owners.

Coburg FC’s Hedley Smith models the club’s 2019 NAIDOC week guernsey.

In 2019 the theme of NAIDOC week is Voice.Treaty.Truth –  Voice. Treaty. Truth. were three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. These reforms represent the unified position of First Nations Australians.

Like in 2017 and 2018, the 2019 edition is designed talented Wurrundjeri artist by Ky-ya Nicholson-Ward and the guernsey incorporates many features of the Merri Creek which was pivotal in the eco system of our traditional land owners.

Coburg will wear the design on July 7thin the VFL match against Essendon at Piranha park Coburg and following the game the guernseys will be available for sale with a percentage of the profits going back to Ky-ya so she can continue her development as a young artist with a passion for her Aboriginal culture.
