NELSON COMMITS TO BURGERLAND!!!

Coburg is happy to announce the Lions exciting Lions small forward Luke Nelson has committed to the club for the forthcoming 2022 season.  Nelson made 10 appearances in the revised and much interrupted 2021 VFL season, amassing 8 goals whilst averaging 14.4 disposals.  

Speaking about his contract extension, Nelson praises the way he was embraced when joining the club.
“I am really pleased with the way I have been welcomed and embraced at Coburg,” he said.
“It’s a club that has hard working people everywhere you look… (the) playing group is full of motivation and it’s exciting to see where another year together might take us,” he explained.  

Despite not qualifying for the finals in what was ultimately a 2nd successive unfinished VFL season, Nelson believes that the playing group can take a lot of positives and learn from the results in 2021. 
“We can take a lot of positives from 2021, the most important though would be our belief that we are good enough because we are a very young group,“ Nelson said.  
“Even though we weren’t rewarded with wins, we got a lot of learning out of those close losses both as a team and individual perspective,” Nelson explained.  

Primarily applying his trade in the forward 50, Nelson aspires to get more midfield time in 2022, a sentiment that is shared by head coach Andrew Sturgess.  “We’re looking to have him play further up the field next year,” Sturgess explained.  “He is a really good runner… and is looking to elevate his game,” Sturgess said.  

Sturgess had nothing but praise for the work that Nelson has put into improving himself as a players, citing the fact the he was the “first player to reach out to him once the season concluded to ask for areas to improve.”

Coburg fans can get excited as they can expect more news on further player re-signings for season 2022 to be announced in the coming weeks.
