Coburg Go Down in Thriller to Bombers

By Nathan Spicer

The Lions 13.7.85 have suffered a devastating loss to Essendon 12.14.86 going down by a point in an incredible finish. With scores level and the siren about to sound Bombers forward Jake Sutton snapped from 30 out and the ball bounced over a Lions head to go through for a point to disappoint the Lions.

Earlier it was Edyn Sibbald who dominated for the Lions getting two goals in the first quarter to give the Lions a four-point lead going into quarter time. He then got another early in the second to take his tally to three.

Coburg would lead or be level at every change including by 19 points at 3QT. The small forward duo of Sam Lowson and Josh D’Intinosante lit up the third with Lowson ending with three majors for the day.

The Bombers took control in the final quarter thanks to some great intercept marking from James Stewart. They hit the front late and it took a great roving goal from Coburg’s best player for the day Braydn Gillard to tie up the scores with only a couple minutes left.

Gillard would end up with 26 touches and two goals. He was joined by Nathan Boucher and Sam Lowson in the best whilst ruckman Adam Swierzbiolak was impressive.

Coburg face Frankston at home next Sunday.
